James E. Pepper produces a limited number of barrels, about 2,000 per year starting in 2023, all of which are distinctive in the world of Kentucky Bourbon from the large traditional producers.
In the beating heart of Kentucky, James E. Pepper Bourbon represents an icon of taste with roots dating back to the American Revolution. Founded in 1780, Colonel Pepper’s distillery was a reference point for technological innovation, so much so that its Bourbon was loved by Rockefeller and Theodore Roosevelt.
After a period of post-Prohibition decline, entrepreneur Amir Peay, fascinated by this history, brought the company back to life through a patient and admirable work of restoration of the historic building. Production resumed in 2017, faithfully following the original recipes dating back to 1967.
STYLISTIC
The water source is the distillery’s historic well, the corn is 100% locally grown by a single farmer, while the rye and barley are selected from around the world to ensure premium quality. The whiskeys are aged in the finest barrels, including new toasted barrels made from Kentucky oak, air-seasoned for at least 18-24 months. All Bourbons have a low alcohol content when entering the barrel, no more than 110 proof.
