The stony soil makes for very drinkable, mineral, delicate, not too complex wines, perfect from aperitif to the whole meal.
In the Grave del Friuli, the Fernanda Cappello estate extends over 135 hectares, of which 126 hectares are dedicated to vineyards, 2 hectares to woods and the remainder to crop rotation.
Looking at it from above, you discover its natural and original position, in the “Magredi” between the Cellina and Meduna rivers, areas protected by the imposing Alps, on an alluvial, poor, skeletal terrain, made of calcareous-dolomitic stones.
The territory ennobles and characterizes its fruits thanks to two natural allies: the Alpine breeze that comes from the Tramontina Valley, caresses and aerates the vineyards, creating a dry microclimate that allows the harvest of healthy grapes, even if the rains fall abundantly throughout the year. And the stones, so omnipresent on the surface of the vineyards, are precious for the minerality of the soil.
A place where the Fernanda Cappello estate is now an integral part: a bond that has been perpetuated and enriched harvest after harvest since 1970.
ZONE
The alluvial soils and morainic hills of the Grave del Friuli can be compared to the “Graves” of Bordeaux. The poor soils, made of calcareous-dolomitic stones, give fruity, lively, medium-bodied, mineral wines.
“Magredo” means “lean land”, that is, arid and poor in water. The stones of the magredi allow perfect hydration of the soil without stagnation. The roots go deep and take the necessary nourishment. The stones assimilate heat during the day and release it at night creating medium-bodied wines.
